La “Maison de Rencontre et de Cultures” occupe une position stratégique. Le bâtiment restauré dispose d’une nouvelle façade qui permet une meilleure lisibilité de l’équipement et clarifie sa position de seuil vers le cœur d’îlot. Terminer l’îlot ancien tout en s’ouvrant vers le nouveau quartier, telles sont les deux attitudes complémentaires qui ont façonné ce projet. “Côté rue”, le bâti s’inscrit en continuité des façades latérales existantes, en accentuant la perception de la frontalité de l’îlot à l’alignement. “Côté cour”, un petit square ménage le recul nécessaire à la perception de la maison de rencontre, tout en offrant un accès arboré aux logements. S’appuyant sur la forte présence du bois, plusieurs rappels viennent irriguer le projet des logements neufs.
Ce traitement différencié en attique fait également écho au projet de rénovation des immeubles voisins. Le projet s’insère ainsi délicatement dans son contexte, reprenant les gabarits, systèmes de percements et teintes d’enduits locaux. Les grandes typologies ont été privilégiées, avec double ou triple exposition, afin de compenser la façade nord imposée par la forme de l’îlot. De ce fait tous les salons sont exposés au sud ou en angle vers l’ouest. | The new ‘House for Culture & Encounter’ building is strategically located. The restored building has a new facade which allows for a better understanding of the facility and its different programs, it also clarifies its position as a threshold to the heart of the urban block. The goal was to enclose the open space of the existing block while remaining oriented out towards the new district. The
building is aligned with the existing facades, accentuating the frontal perception of the block as a whole. A small park leaves the necessary open space in the yard, to perceive the building from a distance, while also making space for a tree-lined access to the buildings entrance hall. The main material for the facade is wood, and the interior design is timber. The attic flat is differentiated from the basic framework of the building, inspired by the roof extensions of the neighboring buildings. Thus, the building integrates perfectly with its surrounding site, the existing urban scale, the materials and the patterns. The housing units are large, with double or triple exposure, in order to make up for the large northern oriented facades imposed by the shape of the block. Hence, no unit is mono-oriented; each one has southern exposure.
